Abstract tendency either in the form of pop art or in the form of expressionism and even in minimalism came about with the 1340s and 1350s (1960s and 1970s) Iranian art and influenced it. The influence has sometimes been regular while it has in some cases been completely formalist. Ghasem Hajizadeh and Manouchehr Yektaei are two of the most successful artists of this period. Some influences of pop art in Hajizadeh’s work and influences of abstract expressionism in Yektaei’s art came through international art world. Following them, other artists like Fereydoun Ave, Maryam Javaheri, and Lili Matindaftari got the hang of western art and created new works. At the end of Pahlavi’s time there were artists like Koroush Shishegaran whose art exhibition was recently held in Khak Gallery that have partially been influenced by western art. The problem with his work is that whereas it is influenced by both abstract expressionism and pop, it conveys nothing more than a graphic design to the Iranian interlocutors. On the other hand, by following this formalistic experience in his works we will see an art work in which colours have replaced the forms. It was accepted for a period of time but as it becomes the artist’s only method, he will end up repeating the same experience. This method leads the artist to think more about the market and less about creativity. On the contrary, some great artist like Modigliani or Morandi can be mentioned as having enough talent and creativity to make their art works original for the audience. While Shishegaran’s work c an also been seen in Mombeigi’s 1970s works. Farideh Lashai’s work influenced by American abstract expressionism motivated some young artist like Shahriar Ahmadi to complete her method buy new ideas and creativity, while Lashai herself Became professional -------- painter. The quality of market plays an important role in how these artists create an art work. Not willing to lose in the market, the artists avoid changing their method. We can obviously see how the difference of Iran’s market and western one has influenced the works of some painters like Fereydoun Ave and Reza Derakhshani who both used to live abroad for a while. Consequently in their exhibition creation of new art works can be observed. In Ave’s works, the combination of drawings and photos is seen. In his works the photos will remind you of his last collection of Rostam and Sohrab and of course it is also affected by the Rauschenberg. “The basic element” collection could have been better judged in a solo exhibition but here in a group exhibition he could again show that there is little influence of Italian artist work-where Ave used to live-in his work. Therefore he is a dynamic artist with great deal of creativity; he has the knowledge of art history and knows how to take advantage of new techniques to avoid repetition. The colours and forms add spirituality to his work. To sum up, it’s not known why Khak gallery held a group exhibition of these artists but it is still interesting to see and compare the works of Derakhshani and Ave, the two grown abroad, Lashai and Shishegaran grown in Iran.
